Panel: Creating an Ecosystem to Take Land and Housing Off of the Speculative Market

There are currently tremendous opportunities in California and the Bay Area to advance community controlled housing preservation strategies, such as community land trusts (CLTs) and other alternative land and housing models. These strategies stabilize communities, prevent renters from displacement, take land and housing off of the speculative market and keep them permanently affordable, and are cost-effective and environmentally sustainable.

Join us for a discussion of how the region can support the growth of community ownership models, and move land and housing into permanent affordability and community stewardship.

Panel: Reflection on the November Elections: What We Gained, Where We’re Going

From vacancy taxes to rent control to affordable housing bonds, the November ballot is packed with initiatives that will have a direct impact on our communities and be a bellwether for possible bolder action in 2024 and beyond. At the same time, the demographic shift of renters and low-income people of color to the suburbs and rise of district elections is transforming the electoral landscape. Join us for a discussion on what the November elections mean for building power in low-income communities of color and advancing housing justice throughout the region.
