Celebrating Our Newest Leaders: June 17th
One more cohort. One more generation of leaders ready to take their seats at the tables where decisions get made.
We are thrilled to invite you to celebrate the 17th cohort of Urban Habitat’s Boards and Commissions Leadership Institute (BCLI). These leaders have spent the past six months deepening their understanding of regional policy and racial equity — and building the skills to co-govern. They are organizers, advocates, parents, and neighbors. And they are ready.
This graduation carries special meaning. Earlier this year, we lost our founder, Carl Anthony — a man who believed, above all else, that building power in communities of color was not charity work, but justice work. Carl spent decades proving that multicultural leadership wasn’t just possible—it was essential.
Our keynote speaker is a living example of that vision. San Jose City Councilmember Pamela Campos completed BCLI in 2023, and one year later won her seat on city council — becoming the first Latina and the youngest person ever elected to that office. Born and raised in San Jose, Pamela has dedicated her career to amplifying the voices of those rarely heard at decision-making tables, through both policy and deep community engagement.
Pamela and this cohort are proof that Carl Anthony’s vision is alive and growing.
Join us on Wednesday, June 17, 6:00–8:00 PM to celebrate these leaders as they step into their roles as advocate commissioners — ready to serve their communities.
