The Civic Leadership Training (CLT) increases the readiness of resident leaders from low-income communities and communities of color to participate and serve on boards and commissions.
Participants learn about land use, housing, transportation, and regionalism within the context of their own lived experiences. They examine the role of public boards and commissions in advancing justice and gain foundational skills that help them to become an advocate or an effective commissioner.
After completing the CLT, participants are encouraged to apply to Urban Habitat's Boards and Commissions Leadership Institute (BCLI). The BCLI helps leaders committed to advancing social justice get onto local and regional boards and commissions across the Bay Area and provides individualized support throughout their commission service. The BCLI training helps leaders gain skills to ensure that the decisions they make as commissioners benefit communities who have been historically marginalized.
