UH And Allies Getting REDI For Richmond!
The Richmond Equitable Development Initiative (REDI) is a collaborative effort, offering alternatives to current planning and development practices that often result in the gentrification and displacement of current residents. REDI’s vision for Richmond is a community in which every resident has access to affordable housing, and safe, reliable public transit that connects them to living-wage jobs, quality education, a clean environment, health care and other essential services. As Richmond is updating its General Plan, REDI sees the city’s process as an opportunity to bring together city government with residents to ensure equitable development in land use, housing, transportation, economic development, and community health.
To this end, REDI will host two tracks of workshops early next year in order to reach a wide array of stakeholders. In one track elected officials, community leaders, and policy makers will explore and strategize solid planning and funding decisions which are grounded in principles of equitable development and planning In another track Richmond residents will be trained to tackle root inequity causes through the city planning process. Ultimately, REDI will convene a body of government officials, developers, and residents to realize a common vision for equitable development, using Richmond’s General Plan Update as a vehicle for implementation.
